    I love Santa Monica…..
…. Live, Work and own a business here. It is sad to see that white paranoia exists still.
Do you see the message you are sending? If not, it sounds like this, “Happy 4th of July!
    Go spend it somewhere else”!

  5. Lynn Sturgis says:

Your fireworks notice above says Saturday, June 26th – but Saturday is the 25th…, which is it? Saturday or the 26th? Thanks!

  6. parra says:

why santa monica not having 4th of july fireworks ??? i from arizona i was planning to go santa monica to see some fireworks this year ~ sucks

  7. Cheryl Kleinert says:

Yes, we are actually coming from Florida for vacation and were expecting to see fireworks on July 4th. Instead, we will miss them entirely since they are doing them June 26th. If you can’t do it July 4th, why bother? What a waste!

Santa Monica 4th of July Events

    Celebrate America – Sat., June 26 5pm

The date above should be June 25th not 26th.

  11. C Dickinson says:

This firework display should not be in the residential area.
The deafening explosion literally shake our houses and the pollution lingers for a long period of time even after the firework ended . And I wish the City had sent out reminders of keeping the residents pets safe from the thundering sound above our neighborhood.

  12. Annie says:

raul yrastorza you are so right. When will it end??
“Why can’t we all just get along” and show some love for each other.

  13. Annie says:

I agree with you raul yrastorza.

  14. s gill says:

i love fireworks but agree with c dikinson, veterinary clinics are overrun the 4th with animals having seizures and needing medicine from the racket. fireworks should be out of residenrtial areas and kept to the pier and the bowl, etc.

very stressful for pet owners and even parents of small children

  15. MG says:

I believe Santa Monica used to have fireworks by the Pier several years ago. I have no idea why they stopped. I’m sure there’s a reason, but it’s sad…

  16. Paul Shultz says:

The pier and Hollywood Bowl are as much residential areas as SMC. So are the Marina, Culver High, and Palisades High, and the latter 2 have their own great fireworks displays on the 4th, as do many other places, so ya don’t have to miss them.

  17. Daniel Stehura says:

Santa Monica is Just a Mess By not having Fireworks on Maybe
Saturday July 2 Wow that is a cool Idea!!! It falls into the worse parking in the L.A. area. Permits everywhere. My Daughter rented an apartment here and I could not visit her!!! I lived in Santa Monica in 1979 and it was much better place now little Natzi’s run around and give you $65 dollar tickets or Tow.
Some things are better but City Council trashed a nice parking situation which lacks freedom. I will not work in Santa Monica Hospital because parking is $15 per day and no street parking.

  18. Jennifer says:

Wow. I’m new to Santa Monica and haven’t heard anyone say the phrase “White Paranoia” and I’m not sure what that means. Being white, reading this makes me feel a bit uneasy. I didn’t see where anyone prior to Raul’s comment even mentioned anything racial. I only see this in Raul’s comment. Sad.

  19. sbridge says:

I find this very disappointing. I had 4 friends come in from out of town and requested the 4th off, so that I could watch fireworks from the beach my 1st year in California. I guess the 4th of July is of more importance to those on the East Coast, it is a family/friend day to celebrate our country and enjoy our company and we always shoot fireworks over the lakes and oceans. As a resident, I wish I would have know or i would have planned this differently. Never once has anyone mentioned that fireworks will be on the 25th… what happened to the news? Local Advertising?? I work at Santa Monica Place Mall and nobody had even mentioned the fireworks being on a different day. Why would a mall or a City Celebrate a Christmas. Thanksgiving or New Years a week and half before?? They wouldn’t and it doesn’t happen. Sooo why celebrate a National Event/Holiday a week and half before?? Make no sense. Thanks for ruining my holiday.

  20. Jesus says:

Hey! why are you not gonna do the fireworks this year??? we were waiting for this a lot of time so that you tell us that you are not gonna do it? thats unfair!

  21. Bob B says:

I hate santa monica airport-it is stinky and loud and dangerous and needs to be closed-it is for the rich people most who do not live in sm-CLOSE THE AIRPORT 2015

  22. Toeli Carp says:

Fireworks should be ILLEGAL, thank you SM for not scaring our animals and polluting the air we breathe.

    Also, smokers go home.

    That’s why we love SM

  23. lylacavanaugh says:

Yeah. My bird goes crazy, shakes all over and I have to stay home with him.

  24. santamonica says:

Thank you for your comments. Santa Monica has not held a fireworks show since 1991 due to many reasons (for more information visit However, Santa Monica does host the annual 4th of July Parade ( on the morning of July 4th as well as the Celebrate America event and firework show ( the last weekend in June.
