Glow Returns to Santa Monica September 25th!

Santa Monica is known throughout the world as a center of innovation and cutting-edge culture. Glow was developed by the City’s Cultural Affairs Division to reflect these attributes. Glow is a biannual event.

Glow is an opportunity for the City, and its partners, the Bayside District Corporation, the Pier Restoration Corporation and the Santa Monica Convention and Visitors Bureau, to showcase many of Santa Monica’s unique attributes, including:

  • One of the largest creative communities in the country – 43% of our residents make their living in the arts.
  • A spectacular natural setting.
  • A commitment to the environment.

In 2008, Glow was the first all-night event of it kind in the United States, and it continues to be the only one – where artists are commissioned to create new, site-specific artworks for one night.

In 2008 Glow drew over 200,000 visitors to the beach and downtown Santa Monica.

Glow 2010 has been over two years in the making and will again feature installations on the beach north and south of the Pier and in Palisades Park.

For Glow, artists from multiple disciplines (visual arts, music, dance, poetry, etc.) come together to re-imagine public space in ways that are playful, inspiring and thought provoking.

Glow represents a new way for the public to engage with contemporary art; each of the works is participatory in some way.

Glow’s Artistic Director, Marc Pally, is nationally known as a pioneer int he field of public art.

Glow 2010 will be free to the public through the generous support of a number of private donors and sponsors.
