73rd Annual City of Santa Monica Memorial Day Observance

This event honors our nation’s brave military men and women who have paid the ultimate sacrifice for the freedom we all enjoy today.

Some highlights of the program include:

  • Patriotic music provided by the USC Marching Band
  • Santa Monica Chorus and Angel City Chorale
  • Welcome Address by Santa Monica Mayor Richard Bloom
  • Invocation by Pastor Robert B. Scribner, Lighthouse Church
  • An exciting flyover of military aricraft
  • Keynote address by Colonel Frank W. Simcox, US Air Force

Event parking is available at the parking structure at Santa Monica College located at 16th Street and Pico Boulevard and the college parking lot located at the southeast corner of Pico Boulevard and 14th Street. The Big Blue Bus will also be providing shuttles from the parking structure and parking lot to Woodlawn Cemetery beginning at 9:30 a.m. There is no charge for the event, parking or the shuttle.

During the event, there will be NO parking allowed on the grounds of Woodlawn Cemetery. For additional informa tion call 310-458-8717

Brand X Santa Monica Drive-In (FREE Movies!)

Santa Monica Pier is pleased to announce the Pier’s Annual Brand X Santa Monica Drive-In.  Movies are every Friday in June.  All screenings take place on the Pier Parking Deck at 8:30 p.m. with booths, giveaways and fun starting at 7:30 p.m.

“WHALE WARS” Season 4 Premiere Episode and Live Cast Q & A.  Enjoy the Season 4 Premiere episode of Animal Planet’s Whale Wars on the big screen before it airs and then participate in a a live Q & A with Whale Wars’ Captain Paul Watson, Alex Cornelissen (Captain of the Bob Barker), Firona McCuaig (Bob Barker) and Executive Producer, Jason Carey.  FREE Whale Wars/Animal Planet beach towels to be given out to the first 1,500 in attendance!

ISLAND OF OAHU CELEBRATION AND “50 FIRST DATES”.  Join us at 7:30 p.m. for FREE fresh-flower lei’s, FREE Hawaiian edible treats and a live show from Grammy-winner Daniel Ho.  Screening of “50 First Dates” follows at 8:30 p.m.

The Market Grand Opening at Santa Monica Place


The Market at Santa Monica Place celebrates its Grand Opening on Friday, May 20th! Exciting giveaways for the first 500 people starting at 10am plus a weekend full of entertainment, demonstrations, tastings and more!

10 Best Contest – The Lobster

Hi again! It’s Kimberly Wiethorn, winner of Santamonica.com’s 10 Best Contest to tell you all about my latest dining adventure using my prize from the contest.  I’m excited about my post today as I get to write about one of my favorite spots that is just so quintessentially Santa Monica—The Lobster!

Normally when my mom comes to visit from Texas, this is where we will go for dinner our first night. While undoubtedly this is one of my favorite places to take visitors, I also frequently love to go enjoy cocktails, the sunset, and some appetizers on any given weekend afternoon. Which is exactly what I did this past weekend with my friend Roy as we kicked off our celebrating of his birthday.

We grabbed a few glasses of champagne on the outside patio while sharing a few nibbles—the burratta with tomatoes, the calamari and prawns, and the truffle parmesan fries-all of which were fantastic.

Spring has sprung readers so get out to the Lobster—this is one of the best places to enjoy our wonderful city!

10 Best Contest – Border Grill

It’s Kimberly Wiethorn again, back to tell you more about my fun foodie adventures in Santa Monica as a resulting of winning Santamonica.com’s 10 Best Contest.

This time, I used my certificate to Border Grill for a fun weeknight catch-up dinner with an old friend.  Both of us being native Texans, we are hard to please when it comes to Mexican food.

Although it wasn’t the Tex-Mex or authentic Mexican I was used to from home, I had a really great meal of their fish special with veggies and polenta while my friend devoured his burrito! Just stay away from the salsa (well, that’s what they called the stuff at least!). I’m also a big fan of their plantains!  They label their fare as Modern Mexican, which they distinguish as being much lighter.

This is a great spot to head to when you are out and about in downtown Santa Monica for either food or to enjoy cocktails at the bar!
