Santa Monica Welcomes The Royals!

California’s Most Celebrated Beach City is welcoming two individuals who are very celebrated in their own right this month, Their Royal Highnesses William and Catherine, Duke & Duchess of Cambridge. As the recently wed Royal Couple make their way through Canada and on to California, the state’s quintessential beach city is rolling out specially created promotions in their honor.

Travelers seeking the Royal treatment while visiting Santa Monica need look no further than two of the city’s luxurious hotels for some regal pampering.

“Royal Rendezvous” (Hotel Oceana)
The posh property offers wannabe Royal romantics a two-night stay in a luxurious, 850-square foot Ocean View Signature Suite; poolside tea for two each afternoon; wine tasting tour through the Santa Monica Mountains in a chauffeured Rolls Royce, just like Will and Kate; and a picnic for two personally prepared by Chef Andi Van Willigan.

Royal price: $6,000

“The Royal Hideaway Package” (Hotel Shangri-La)
Immerse yourself in royal sensibility at the Hotel Shangri-La. Hideaway in a posh one-bedroom luxury ocean-view suite, coupled with PG Tips English tea & sumptuous Sticky Toffee Pudding for two. As the sun sets, step up to Suite 700, Santa Monica’s only open-air rooftop bar/lounge, for a pair of complimentary Pimms Cups & a first-class sunset fit for a king & queen.

“A Little Royalty” (Le Merigot Hotel)
Couples can share a Royal kiss on the private balcony of their suite, along with champagne and strawberries, dinner and breakfast for two – served in the hotel’s chic restaurant or in the privacy of their room and VIP valet parking.

Royal price: $585 per night

“The excitement and happiness surrounding the Royal Couple’s upcoming visit to California is infectious. We’re thrilled to partake in the pomp and spirit with our signature Santa Monica style,” says Misti Kerns, president of Santa Monica Convention and Visitors’ Bureau.

Santa Monica has long been a hot destination for travelers from around the world and, as such, offers several spots with international flavor. With so many British expats who live in Santa Monica, it is no surprise that the teahouses and pubs are gearing up for the royal visit with special promotions.

The Duchess of Cambridge and fashionistas from all over the world can revel in Santa Monica’s eclectic shopping experience. A number of British designers have stores in Santa Monica, including Ted Baker, All Saints and Burberry, all located at the beautiful Santa Monica Place, as well as London Sole on Montana Avenue. If the Duchess or you just feel like royalty and are looking for a quintessential California look, the best bet would be to visit Kitson, Johnny Was, Fred Segal or one of the many small boutiques that line Main Street or Montana Avenue.

From afternoon tea parties, DJ’s spinning British hits, and wedding memorabilia sales, check out all the ways to celebrate the royal couple’s visit at www.santamonica.com/uk.
