6th Annual Fourth of July Parade

Kicks off in front of the Civic Center and proceeds down Main Street to the Venice border

Santa Monica’s 6th Annual Fourth of July Parade on Main Street, celebrating the imaginative, inventive spirit of our nation’s founders. We would like to welcome the Buy Local Community as our 2012 parade partners.

Fireworks start at 9pm. Spectators can watch the display and listen to synchronized music on KXLU 88.9FM. The music will be relayed over loudspeakers in Burton Chace Park, for onlookers.

Pacific Palisades

64th Annual Pacific Palisades Fourth of July Parade – Skydivers – 1:50pm, Parade 2:00pm. Located on Sunset Boulevard, between Via de la Paz and Drummond.

Palisades Rocks the Fourth Concert and Fireworks – Gates Open 6:00pm, Entertainment 6:30pm, Fireworks 9:00pm. General Admission $6 at the gate, only $5 online in advance. Children 12 and under FREE (children must present a “free” ticket at the door). Located at Palisades Charter H.S. Stadium by the Sea, 1577 Bowdoin Street.

Culver City
Wednesday, July 4th, 2012

Gates open at 5PM, entertainment begins at 6:30PM, and the fireworks start at 9PM. Suggested donation of $2 per person (children under 5 are free) will help us continue those efforts.

California Travel Association Honors Santa Monica’s Best at 30th Annual Summit

Santa Monica Convention & Visitors Bureau’s Sales & Services Manager, Hannah Avol, and Santa Monica based environmental advocacy non-profit, Heal the Bay, both received awards at California Travel Association’s (CalTravel) 30th Annual California Travel Summit earlier this month!

Heal the Bay received the California Travel Association’s Tourism Stewardship of the Year Award for its significant contributions in preserving our shared natural resources.  The Santa Monica based environmental advocacy non-profit, has been a pioneer in preserving California’s Coastline and instrumental in the improvement of water quality at California beaches for over 20 years.  Their team of passionate scientists and advocates monitors pollution levels at California beaches with its weekly Beach Report Card, leads beach cleanups, and educates coastal and inland communities on the importance of protecting our watersheds.  Heal the Bay also encourages ocean stewardship at its Santa Monica Pier Aquarium, which welcomes more than 70,000 visitors each year.

SMCVB Sales & Services Manager, Hannah Avol, received an “Emerging Leaders Award”

Hannah Avol received an “Emerging Leaders Award”, presented to 30 individuals, 30 years of age or younger, who reflect California’s exciting “new leaders of tourism.”  Avol has served as the Santa Monica Convention and Visitors Bureau’s Manager of Sales and Services for the past four and a half years and stands out amongst her peers as a dedicated professional committed to increasing the awareness of initiatives that SMCVB, local hospitality partners and the City of Santa Monica find important. She has been instrumental in the strategic promotion the Santa Monica destination to international markets including Spain, Australia, England, France and Ireland. Avol is a member of the Site International as well as committee chair of the Emerging Leaders for the Site Southern California Chapter.

Santa Monica Kicks Off Summer with New Visitors Guide & “Santa Monica PIN-spiration” Contest

Santa Monica Convention & Visitors Bureau (SMCVB) has announced the release of the 2012-2013 Santa Monica Official Visitors Guide-a free publication containing valuable information on what to see and do in California’s quintessential beach city.  Produced annually by Santa Monica Convention & Visitors Bureau and their publisher, Striker Media Group, the comprehensive guide offers the latest information on area attractions, recreation, overnight accommodations, shopping, dining, cultural experiences, travel tips and a street map.  This year’s edition also features local perspectives from key community members, inviting visitors to embrace the city’s chic beach lifestyle.

“With near-perfect weather, endless outdoor activities and streets that welcome pedestrians and bicyclists, its easy for visitors to get fully immersed in the Santa Monica lifestyle and feel like a local when they are exploring our destination,” said SMCVB President/CEO Misti Kerns, CDME, CMP. “Our goal was to create a resource for both residents and visitors alike.  Whether you are planning a day at the beach or a full summer vacation, this guide can help you create a full and rich itinerary.”

Santa Monica fans can now get a sense of the destination’s lifestyle on Pinterest, the hugely popular social bookmarking site that lets users collect and share things they like on the web.  Santa Monica’s Pinterest page features pin-worthy boards that highlight dining, arts and culture as well as summer essentials.

To kick off Santa Monica’s Pinterest page and celebrate the release of the 2012-2013 Santa Monica Official Visitors Guide, fans of the destination are invited to pin their “Santa Monica PIN-spirations” for a chance to win a 3-night stay at the luxurious beachfront Hotel Casa del Mar along with a beach tote bag filled with gift certificates for Santa Monica’s attractions, shopping and dining. Fans can enter by doing the following:

  • Follow the Official Santa Monica Pinterest page
  • Create a new Pinterest board titled “My Santa Monica PIN-spirations” under the category “Travel & Places” with 10 pins that showcase the Santa Monica lifestyle
  • The board MUST contain 3 pins from any of the Official Santa Monica Pinterest boards OR the Santa Monica destination website, SantaMonica.com.  Photos pinned to your contest entry board must contain the hashtag #SMpinspiration.
